For many people, a church’s website or online listing is the first place they meet you, long before they ever walk through the door. The good news is that small churches don’t need a big budget or a tech team to make a warm, clear first impression. These five habits go a long way.
1. Put the essentials front and center
Your homepage should answer three questions within seconds: when are services, where are you, and what should I expect? Add your service times, address with a map link, parking details and a short, friendly welcome. Make sure it all reads well on a phone, because that’s where most visitors will see it.
2. Claim and update your Google Business Profile
When someone searches “churches near me,” your Google listing often appears before your website. Claim your free profile, confirm your hours and service times, add photos of your building and people (with permission), and update it for holiday services.
3. Post sermons on a regular rhythm
Posting each week’s sermon, scripture passage and notes helps members who missed a Sunday and gives visitors a sense of your church before they attend. Consistency matters more than polish. A simple weekly post beats an elaborate one that happens once a quarter.
4. Keep in touch with a simple email newsletter
Social media is helpful, but email reaches people directly. A short weekly or monthly newsletter with upcoming events, prayer needs and a word of encouragement keeps your congregation connected throughout the week.
5. Keep your website secure and up to date
Outdated websites are a common target for hackers. Keep your website software, themes and plugins updated, use strong unique passwords with two-factor authentication, and make sure regular backups are running. If no one at your church has time for this, that’s exactly the kind of help our ministry provides.
